What does it take to maintain a website?

/What does it take to maintain a website?

First, understand that websites are never done. The misnomer that you can build a website and just leave along. That it is just not the reality. You wouldn’t put up a roadside billboard and not maintain the framework, the structure, the electricity for viewing at night, insurance against a catastrophe, and the ad itself. Websites are no different.

Here are a few things you will need to maintain on a WordPress website excluding updating your content:

  1. URL ownership (yearly)
  2. Web hosting (yearly)
  3. Security Certifications (yearly)
  4. Language updates including PHP and MySQL (1-4 times a year)
  5. WordPress Core Updates (1-8 times a year)
    – Be sure to set aside time for if the plugin update breaks something to be able to fix it.
  6. Theme Updates (1-4 Times a year)
    – Be sure to set aside time for if the plugin update breaks something to be able to fix it.
  7. Security Updates (Monthly)
  8. Plugin Updates (1-8 times a year per plugin)
    – Be sure to set aside time for if the plugin update breaks something to be able to fix it.
  9. SPAM monitoring (Weekly)
  10. Site Database Backups (Daily to Weekly)
  11. Full File Backups (Daily to Monthly)

We recommend that you plan ahead for this time or work with us to help maintain your website.
